477867 2006-08-11 20:55:00 ok i know there was a thread like this a while ago but i couldnt find one. well im on a tight budget and would like to build a decent PC that can play games well under or around $1000 without Monitor. What would be a possible setup i could have. I was thinking something with an AMD 3800+ Dual Core AM2. (is it really worth getting dual core?) Is it even possible? thomas09 (10276)
477868 2006-08-11 21:58:00 Its not really possible to get anything decent thats suitable for gaming for that price.

You'd need $1500 for the basics.

Microstar K9N Neo-F Socket AM2 nVidia nForce 550 ATX
7600gs
1gb RAM
120gb hdd
some cheap arse case
some cheap arse cd drive

Total ~$1100

that would be perfectly adequate as a mid range system, however If i was you I would save up to a budget of about $1500 as the performance increases up to about 1.5-2k are exponential

I say so as well, 2.5k is more than enough to get a computer that will play any game out there at high/medium high settings

and fwiw straitjacket, my sys gets about 12.5k in 3dmark 05
