477645 2006-08-10 19:02:00 I'm having big trouble with my pc. When I replaced an old cd drive in the pc the pc would show the activity indicator glowing a constant amber but no power light. The pc would not load up or show anything on the screen, nor would it make any booting beeps. It is really bugging me cos I cant figure out why. Everything is linked up the same as the old cd drive. I have tried many different cd drives and still the same problem. It works okay when my old cd drive is put back in but it won't accept a new cd drive. I really hope someone out there can help me Please. Oh just thought I better mention I put a new motherboard in not long ago but I cant see how this could affect it. The motherboard was pretty much the same as the old one. Thanks. deandavinchi (10951)
477646 2006-08-10 19:32:00 It is better to keep all your related posts in the same thread, rather than starting new ones. Otherwise people will be repeating what has already been suggested without realising you have checked all that.

Pc wont load up after i install new cd drive (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) - original thread.

If you are still waiting for advice in the original thread, then it is better to post in it again saying that, and this will bump up your thread to the front page again where it has a better chance of being viewed.

477647 2006-08-10 21:51:00 The IDE cable may be the wrong way around, red stripe to pin 1 on the motherboard and closest to the power connector on the CD ROM drive.

Else you may have a dud drive.

477648 2006-08-11 01:26:00 Have you checked the jumpers on the new drive? Very often new drives are set as master and the drive that works may be set as slave. You probably also have a CS ( Cable select ) option. Sweep (90)
477649 2006-08-11 18:38:00 The IDE cable is the right way around and the jumpers are the same as the other one. It really is bugging me. I cant understand how the old cd drive when connected will load up the pc but with another one it doesnt load up. I have tried this now with 3 different cd drives but non will load with them in. very strange. deandavinchi (10951)
477650 2006-08-13 19:28:00 When I changed the motherboard I never installed a fresh version of windows xp. I just carried on using the version I already had. Do you think this could be why it wont accept a new cd drive and maybe that I should install windows again. deandavinchi (10951)
