Quite often this indicates that the laser in the drive has died.
Replacement drives (assuming it is a desktop and not a laptop) are very cheap.

477550 2006-08-10 07:56:00 hi, thanks very much for your adivce, would i need to take it in to a computer shop to get a new one or can i do it myself? tessakamessaka (10956)
477551 2006-08-10 08:05:00 If its a laptop, take it in (could be expensive)
If it's a desktop, and you know how to use a scredrivewr it's quite easy.

But unless you tell us something about the computer make/model we are guessing here...

477553 2006-08-10 08:08:00 You can do it yourself ,if your getting a new one it will come with instructions on how to install it.But if you dont want to you could take it to a computer repair shop I dont know how much they will charge though. your looking from between $50 for the real budget to about $200 for the top of the range to buy a new drive, what are the specifications of your computer?
