478233 2006-08-13 10:12:00 Hello ppl,

I need some recommendations for a remote access program.
Get calls every now and then from friends with pc problems and often get frustrated trying to explain in plain english how they should fix it over the phone.
I know msn messenger 7.5 has that sort of tool built in, but not all my friends have msn messenger. Is there any remote access tools that are not to difficult to install and run so I can just fix thier pc over a remote connection?

478234 2006-08-13 10:56:00 MSN Messenger doesnt really do anything. Windows messenger did. Altho both users had to have Windows Messenger to use it.

It lets u use remote desktop, which is only available on XP Pro. Altho, there are client programs for other versions of Windows from MS.

This only really worked good if you're on ADSL as well. Using it on dialup is slow as hell.

This is free, dunno how good it is, never used it

478235 2006-08-13 11:05:00 Me, I would have said both sides to use, Hamachi (http://www.hamachi.cc/) to get a number like an IP address.

Then, use TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com/) to connect to the other computer. Just enter the address that Hamachi assigns you to connect to the other VNC connected computer.

Have you considered using the "Remote Assistance" feature in Windows? (XP Home and Pro)
