| 478025 | 2006-08-17 11:59:00 | Is the modem / router connected using USB? If so, that maybe the prob. If it can be connected using ethernet, I would use that. USB is crap for ADSL modems. Hey Speedy. I am interested in why you said connecting the router to the computer via USB is "crappy". Cheers :) |

| 478026 | 2006-08-17 13:09:00 | because it is :D As for speed, the telecom guy said i'd be lucky to get 300KB/s intermittently, but i currently get 1500KB/s dload 131kb/s upload on my pc i am on a 2MB / 128KB plan with ihug. i use a D-link DSL-G604T (nicknamed Goat) with 2 computers wired to it, one laptop wirelessly connected, and a tplink TL-SF1008D switch between me and the router. the router reckons it's connecting to the exchange at 1700KB/s i am over 6km from my exchange. my slingshot neighbours across the road, paying for 3.5MB are getting 1MB tops. perhaps it is just isp, perhaps networking... do you use line filters or get a little box just for the router? (i got a little box) |

If you're getting 1700 kb/s at that apparent distance you are probably connected via a miniDSLAM remote from the exchange and your neighbours are directly connected to the exchange. ps you seem to refer to bits b and Bytes B interchangably in several posts. |
