| 478464 | 2006-08-14 10:58:00 | I need to connect a USB printer to the computer, which are about 5m away from each other. Dick Smith doesn't sell USB extension cables this long, but on my searches I found this (www.dse.co.nz) instead. Would this be nessecary for good signal/performance or do I just need to find a 5m USB or USB extension cable? |

| 478466 | 2006-08-15 00:17:00 | Oh dear, DSE sells 1m USB cables for the same Ascent does a 5m (even 50c less) probably get one of those then... Still, I am interested in this amplified cable idea - when would it be needed (if at all)? |

| 478468 | 2006-08-15 01:13:00 | It's not just the signal loss in a 5m cable that causes that limitation. There's also a timing consideration. The protocol specifies a maximum "time" between nodes. The "lump" in a USB extender cable is more than an amplifier: it's a repeater. which regenerates the signal. | Graham L (2) | ||
