I have just hooked up on a 3.5G adsl plan but the speed on one of the two computers hooked up to the router/modem is running at about half speed. One is a laptop with XP and is able to download at full speed while the other, running ME (sigh) is only able to download at no better that 1.7mb. I would appreciate any suggestions to solve this problem. |

Depends whether you as the XP user want the ME computer competing for all your bandwidth :-) Look for sites with instructions on tuning Windows TCP-IP settings (MTU) or try a downloader that sets up more than 1 stream. |

I forgot to mention that the router/modem has four ports and that both computers are plugged into this. The main computer is the one running ME. I have run all the usual antivirus and spyware programs to make sure that there is nothing that might slow things down. |

Have you run these speed tests with only one PC turned on?
Have you tried http://speedtest.co.nz/ |

If you want a more accurate download test disconnect the other computer for testing each on its own. Also remember to Ctrl-F5 to clear your browser's cache before you run each test. There is a good site http://www.dslreports.com that will give you a bit more heads up on this topic. |
