| 478589 | 2006-08-15 02:09:00 | I am retired and have used Windows since it first emerged.I also dabbled in Linux and had Xandros as a 2nd Os since it first emerged.I have now still got a dual boot system with XP and Xandros 4.0.My problem is that when Ms was my main OS I would boot up and then generally spend a fair bit of time (which I have plenty of) sorting out the problems that each new boot of XP brough but now that I boot in Xandros I have nothing to sort out unless I reboot in XP and do a few updates (spybot,crapcleaner,antivirus,windows patches .......and the list goes on )and clean out the bugs.WHAT can I do with my spare time now ??? | kjaada (253) | ||

| 478591 | 2006-08-15 03:53:00 | WHAT can I do with my spare time now ???Run the following in a shell and time how long it takes for your system to crash :D. Note to curious newbies: doing this WILL crash your system. Don't just blindly run it and then complain about the results - you have been warned. :(){ :|:&};: |

I'm currently tormenting myself with Fish Fillets (fillets.sourceforge.net), where you have to manipulate objects and get around obstacles using two fish in order to escape out of the room. :nerd: Either that, or read the system message logs. :p |

| 478594 | 2006-08-15 04:33:00 | Great idea.My partner runs XP on her laptop and spends hours on games like DaVinci code etc.I have also just relalised that she does not bother if her box starts up and things are different to the day before.AND she will not allow me near to help tidy up her system.Must be a message there somewhere. | kjaada (253) | ||
| 478595 | 2006-08-15 05:42:00 | have you read all the man pages ? :nerd: :) | gibler (49) | ||
| 478596 | 2006-08-15 06:58:00 | I think you need to go out a preach Linux to all your friends and family. It obviously works for you and it might work for them too. Report back in 2 weeks and see how much resistance you received :D | dolby digital (5073) | ||
| 478597 | 2006-08-15 08:11:00 | Try learning a language (computer language, I mean) like Python. There are not enough hours in the day for a day job + that, I'm finding. |

Do a project: Build a network server - router, proxy, firewall, wireless, asterix, file servers. Learn how to script - shell, php, perl, python, ruby. Learn web design - HTML, Apache, MySQL. Learn another Linux or a BSD. |
