478530 2006-08-14 22:48:00 Hi Team

Not a problem, but a useful success story .

Outlook 2000 threw a hissy-fit at me last night and refused to send messages . It just locked up instead, and I had to use Task manager to close it .

I had to run "Find and Repair" (on the Help menu) 10 times in total, with about four reboots of the computer at various points before all returned to normal, but it worked!

While watching the process, I saw different on-screen messages flashing past at various times, which convinced me that it was still working at the fix . There were no instructions to reboot, but I figured that it would be a good idea to do it after every few passes anyway and couldn't do any harm .

This is not the first time I have used this successfully either, but it was the most iterations I have ever needed to use to get a fix . I mention it here because uninstalling/reinstalling Outlook on its own doesn't seem to be an available option, so it is worth trying if you have some obscure problem and it sure beats uninstalling/reinstalling the whole Office suite .

I backed up my . pst file yesterday morning, so that may be why Outlook got upset . Maybe it thought I didn't trust it anymore . :D

Cheers

478531 2006-08-15 00:06:00 Another easy fix for Outlook issues... uninstall IE (yes, internet explorer).
For some reason Outlook/Outlook Express, and IE are all tied in together (certain dlls within IE I think). Uninstalling IE gets rid of the screwed shared files, and then when you reboot, Windows will reinstall a new IE (which you should then update).
The files are renewed, and voila... Outlook/Outlook Express work fine again.
And you don't lose any emails either :) (coz ya not messing with the email storage files)
