478540 2006-08-14 21:53:00 I have an Athlon 64x2 4200+ CPU

The only program I have that needs power is MS Flight Sim.
This CPU lacks the power I need. I am getting dumped back to desktop after a very short while in flight.

Seems to me The cpu is only using half it's potential.

Would I be better off dumping it and replacing it with, say, a 64 4000+ ?

I don't want to go silly and splurge out on an FX.

478541 2006-08-14 21:59:00 MS Flight Sim has a minimum 450 MHz equivalent or higher processor requirement. It is safe to assume your current CPU is OK.

"Lack of power" from the CPU will not cause you to be dumped out of a game. It does not power the airplanes :p. Some other issue will be behind this which you need to investigate.

Have you looked at the graphic drivers? Are you being dumped out of the game at the same point or same place you are performing a certain action?

478542 2006-08-14 22:00:00 I would check your temps first, then do some bench testing. Rob99 (151)
478543 2006-08-14 22:06:00 do you have a video card capable for the game ?.....i'd be AMAZED if that cpu is 'underpowered' for ANY game..... drcspy (146)
478544 2006-08-14 23:36:00 Running MSFlight Sim 2004 here on an Athlon X2 4400+

Your CPU is not underpowered for this game.

You must have another issue. Whether this issue is hardware or software I can't be sure but it will not be the cpu.

478545 2006-08-14 23:42:00 My computer has an old P4 2.53 533FSB cpu and runs FS9 fine.

478546 2006-08-15 00:20:00 Things to try:

Check the temperatures on the motherboard, CPU, and GPU (graphics card) when you run the game

Check that your GPU is compatible with the game . . . if you have built in graphics on the motherboard or something like an old Riva TNT2 card from a previous PC, it may not be powerful enough .

Update to the latest version of drivers for your GPU

Check available disk space

Check Google, the card's support website, and gaming forums for a known issue such as a conflict

Uninstall and then reinstall the game

478547 2006-08-15 00:21:00 My vid card is a 7900GT with 256 megs. and latest drivers.
Temps are quite low. 30's for cpu and 60's for vid card.
And 2 gigs system ram.
Everything checks out OK.

I am using VOZ and have 700 AI aircraft loaded.
And I am running FSImm.

I get dumped at any stage. Sometimes before I move, sometimes on take off. In fact at any stage of flight

If I don't load FSImm I usually have no problems.

If I don't load aircraft but use FSImm I'm OK.

It just seems that with both together I lack the necessary power.

478548 2006-08-15 01:36:00 You have 700 "AI" aircraft loaded? Doesn't this mean that you have extreme congestion in the virtual sky?

monitor and control their use of airspace, not fly them as well .

478549 2006-08-15 01:46:00 You may have too much ram, try running with only 1Gb

Check for patches for the game.
