478682 2006-08-15 10:20:00 Has anyone encountered the bios guardian feature before? it is apparently to stop viruses interfering with the BIOS, but it has come up on my sister's computer after I put her hard drive in my computer so I could write all her stuff to DVD.

I didn't bother testing the computer after I put the hard drive back in, and when she booted it up tonight, it came up with a bios guardian message. It tells her to press f12 to continue, but when it does, it asks her for boot disks.

The computer is second hand, so I don't think she has all the disks that came with the motherboard.

I've told her to take out the battery to reset the CMOS. What is the next step if that doesn't work?

It protects from overwriting the BIOS with trojans and such . . . although mine did little to protect me from W95 . CIH . damaged afew years ago . . . it just got in and caused all hell to break loose .

It is just another layer of protection from malware and hacks hurting you and your puter .

I don't think pulling the CMOS is gonna do anything, as the Guardian is burned into the Bios Prom somewhere and not susceptable to a reset .
