1406655 2015-08-15 00:16:00 Hi all, I have a HP Laptop nx8220, it will not power on at all, over the last few weeks it would,t start so I done the “ take battery out, hold power button done trick “ and it would start, but yesterday no light on the power switch and not turning on at all.
I have tested the charging cord which is good., cleaned out the socket it plugs into, there one green light that shows in the front when I plug the power button on.

Days leading up to the complete failure, it was going very slow, checked the cpu usage and it was always on 100% although hardly any programs were running.

So if any one could help it would be appreciated.
thanks
.

1406659 2015-08-15 04:45:00 Take the Battery out completely, just try with the mains power. ( seen a faulty battery cause all sorts of problems)
If it still wont start or show any sign of life could be a failed motherboard.

If it were a HDD, it would normally try to start then crash / complain about something. Failing HDD's, as long as the don't suddenly die give some sort of warning. ( got one here at the moment - it left you in no doubt it was about to die) :(

Malware is not going to kill the boot process completely.

Thanks for your reply, tried taken the battery out but still nothing, could it be a bad memory card ?
A couple of times upon starting a square blue box appeared on the screen, I am not sure but i think it said something like " insert sd card ".

1406662 2015-08-15 05:48:00 Hey can you access bios since you saw that message " insert sd card " maybe the booting process is wrong im not sure what the problem could be . There are more people over here who will help you out like wainuitech who is a really good helper .

1406664 2015-08-15 06:21:00 No i can't access nothing now, wasn't trying to go into bios when that message come up either, thanks for your help anyway. Simple way to test. Press the power button, and put your ear ( serious) to the keyboard area at the same time, can you hear any fans or anything working ?

If its silent,no life then there's a high percentage that its a failed motherboard OR a faulty power Switch (doesn't happen very often)

On laptops, by pressing the power button the cooling fans should start up instantly.

could it be a bad memory card Doubt it, if it were there would be some life. A working computer will try to start even without memory installed, of course it wont get very far before it complains. Hence the reason for asking are the fans kicking into life.

Looking up that model, it looks like its roughly 8-9 Years old. Thats old for a laptop.
