1406137 2015-08-08 00:10:00 Hi all, I have had a Billion ADSL router for a long time just using it with my PC, later on I got a laptop to use in another room and the computer shop advised me to buy a netgear n150 wireless router to be able to have a wireless connection.

The trouble is now that the old billion router has to be uplugged for a little while to cool down very often these days, otherwise i get no internet connection, I only have ADSL 1 in my area.
So looking for a replacement for my billion router in case it fails completely, but searching for a replacement I can only find ADSL 2 or ADSL2+, so are these backward compatable or not.

I appreciate any advise, thanks.

Just tell the sales-bot you want to use it on an ADSL1 connection, that way if it doesn't, it's not "fit for purpose" under the CGA and can be returned.

Anyways, ADSL2/2+ and VDSL are backwards compatible.

Cheers,

1406141 2015-08-08 22:29:00 I disagree with the Netgear N150 choice, personally, but yes they're definitely backwards compatible. Some specific routers had issues "falling back" to ADSL1 so your ISP should be able to let you know exactly the connection type and what to select from your router.
To be honest, given that you can only get ADSL, you may be best to get your ISP to supply you a router? Many will do-so for free. Takes the hassle out of "Will this or won't this work" at least :)
