I think that quarter can be called a reactionary conformist, so do not expect originality.

1395750 2015-03-05 23:54:00 When I said try google I was being serious, inputting your question into google results in pages of useful looking results you could read through. If I was asking the question I'm not sure how impressed I'd be with an answer that came from asking random people on an internet forum but I guess if that's just one avenue you're using that's different. Even google seems a bit weak. Citing case studies, educational principles, personal experience and opinion, actual books and reference material, that's more like it. Of course in a pinch google can supply most of that but you would still need to read and digest and form some opinions yourself. It's probably an age thing but it seems like people don't want to spend any time finding answers these days. I'm fond of google myself and if I can't find an answer there seldom go any farther so I'm guilty too.

Every now and again we get questions on here that feel like "do my research for me" or "answer this question for my homework".

1395751 2015-03-06 00:07:00 This is no different to any other post/poll on this website. It's getting your opinion about a subject. That's what a forum is for is it not? An open discussion about a subject? Sharing/requesting thoughts or ideas with/from people. I know how to research and believe it or not this is just another way of doing so...

Thanks to Everyone who has responded positively - appreciate it.

1395752 2015-03-06 00:40:00 What does an effective learning environment look like?

.

I'd say one where the students are happily working away at their learning, enjoying it and succeeding.
Not messing about, looking bored, doing other things instead of the lessons....

1395753 2015-03-06 06:42:00 Depends on what age you are focussing on..................I work in early childhood, so the set up is different than for primary or secondary, or even adults.

You have to think of wellbeing, exploration, resources, culture and a whole range of other things.................. inside environment or outside? teacher directed or childrens interest driven etc............ its a huge big can of worms really......................

1395754 2015-03-06 11:18:00 My personal opinion is 'What does the question even mean?' - it sounds like a pile of abstracted jargon.

There is no answer. The entire universe is a very effective learning environment. If we all sat around waiting for an effective learning environment to present itself, we wouldn't even have learned what the words effective learning environment were.

Put another way, you learn when you least expect it. You learn when you try to do something you don't know how to do. You learn when you're not thinking about learning.

The only thing you learn when you find an 'effective learning environment' and decide to make yourself learn something on purpose, is that you didn't learn anything.

1395755 2015-03-06 13:16:00 I learn differently from most, with music blaring, lying on bed or on my computer with half a dozen things going on, or in-person talking with others about what I'm learning about.

My brother, on the other hand, requires complete silence with no distractions, no people, no noise, sitting at a desk with nothing but essentials.
