480044 2006-08-22 06:25:00 Anyone give me some feedback on "skype" please .

Like, does it work ok on dial-up?

Will it run on ME?

Will an old P3 600mhz with 512 RAM cope?

All feedback appreciated, good or bad .

1 - I doubt it, I had significant trouble with it on ADSL
2 - Don't know this one
3 - Should do, ram might be iffy .

Yes, it does work on dial-up . That's how I am using it, although I suspect the relative slowness of dial-up adds to the "roundtrip" time sometimes, and maybe the voice quality isn't as good as using it on a faster connection .

Don't know about ME, using it on XP here .

The P3 600Mhz and 512MB? RAM will be fine . Using 566Mhz Celeron and 384MB RAM here . I don't think Skype needs much memory .

480049 2006-08-22 07:08:00 1. Apparently yes, but a GOOD dial-up connection is needed and even then its possibly going to give poor quality.

2. From the Skype website:
"Skype may work with Windows 98 (Win98)or ME but we cannot yet guarantee compatibility. Some WinME/9x video (and possibly others) drivers tend to use 100% of processor for their needs for relatively long periods of time. This can cause the audio quality to degrade significantly. In addition, WinME/9x does not offer full unicode support, which means that some things may not display properly. Skype does not work on WinNT at the moment. We may support these platforms in the future and will make any future announcements on our website."

3. Should be fine, but given the limitation in 1 and 2 above, will it matter?

480050 2006-08-22 09:01:00 Ok, I’m starting to get a clearer picture.

What say/can we, forget about video and stick solely with audio?

Thanks for your help to date guys.
