479824 2006-08-21 05:53:00 Dear friend, my IPOD Itunes music library is on drive C. that drive is now full and in the same computer I have a drive D (basically a partition of the same drive).
How can I transfer in a safe way the Itunes library to the disk D ? I heard terrible stories in the past about people transferring and then finding themselves with an empty library.

Also: I have a IPOD shuffle, only 512 MB. I can not synchronise that thing against the 20 GB Itunes library. How can I get a selection of my library on the shuffle?

Very grateful for your help,

cheers

479827 2006-08-21 06:05:00 For your first problem: Drag and drop your music into a folder named Itunes Music on the new D drive, now go into itunes, click edit, now click preferences and select the advanced tab. Now change the Itunes music folder location to your new folder on D drive. So it might look something like this D:\iTunes Music

And for your second: I have no idea, sorry.

EDIT:
Use plod's links, they are better.

479829 2006-08-21 08:34:00 Hi Hotkiwi
I have done this very same change in the past few weeks. As Fishy identifies the steps are very straightforward.

Just to be sure copy over the music rather than just moving it, then you always have a fallback position. You can delete off the C Drive when you feel comfortable. You can name the new folder on the D Drive whatever you want.

Follow Fishy's instructions and when you get to the "Advanced" tab then look for the "General" tab to follow. It is the default. At the very top of the tab is "iTunes Folder Music Location" just chose change and put in the name of your new folder. For example mine is "D:\My Stuff\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music'.

Works great

479830 2006-08-23 03:39:00 I did everything to transfer the files to the D:drive and it all went well. With Explorer I see all the music files being there exactly as they were on the C:drive.
I entered the path corectly in Itunes, but still Itunes does not see the music. i have now an empty list.
what can be wrong?

I have under the advanced tab the right paath to the itunes music folder.

help!!

Al music is there, why does itunes not see it?

cheers

Hi hotkiwi

Open iTunes
Go into Library
Chose any tune or song
Right click and chose "Get Info"
"Summary" is the default tab
-- look at the bottom of the tab which says "Where:"

Does this have the same path as in the Advanced tab ??

Hi hotkiwi
You do not seem to have been online since 2.39pm yesterday. Just trying to see what is happening. When you say "empty list" -- is that an empty library perhaps ??

479833 2006-08-30 10:01:00 Sorry mate, was overseas for some time. it did not work, whatever i did itunes would not see the library. desperate, in the end, I opened itunes and Windows explorer in two adjacent windows and drag and dropped each playlist (each artist has in my library his/her own playlist into the left column of the Itunes screen where all the playlists are. that worked fine. now cross my fingers for the first sync.........

thanks for your help!

i just bought a new 60 GB Pod and next stress will be to be able to sync both Pods 9the 15 Gb and the 60 GB from the same library realising that the 15 GB one can not hold all the files that the 60 GB does. hope Itunes distinguishes between the two Ipods.

cheers
