480331 2006-08-23 23:17:00 Hi all,
Hoping someone recognises the symptoms below.

I am getting the error -

"Services and Controller app encountered a problem and needed to close"

on clicking on the 'more info' button I get -

Error signature
szAppName : services.exe szAppVer : 5.1.2600.2180 szModName : esent.dll
szModVer : 2.1.2600.2780 offset : 0001baec

When I click on cancel a message tells me
"the system will reboot in 60 seconds please save any open files"

Virus and spyware scans are negative.
I have checked Mcafee, Symantec and CA virus info pages and there is no listing of this description, however there is also no listing of this message on Microsoft (no surprise)

Anyone have any ideas?

480332 2006-08-24 01:29:00 Could you clarify a couple of points:

1) What precedes the error message? Does it happen just after startup, after launching a particular application? Intermittently once an hour/day?
2) Has your computer been part of a domain, but has not been connected for a while?

480333 2006-08-24 02:01:00 It occurs between 2 and 4 hours after booting up. The PC is on a domain and the application used is primarily web based on their intranet.

480334 2006-08-24 02:36:00 Ok could you check your system log (right-click My Computer, Manage, Event Viewer, System) and have a look down the list to the time of the most recent crash.

You should find the crash event itself listed as one or more errors, with similar information to your opening post, could you check for other errors preceding the crash event and advise.

Gives me some more options, I'll check

480336 2006-08-24 04:49:00 I believe I may have a solution for anyone who has this problem.

It appears to be related to improperly removing a workstation from a Domain as per the discussions on this URL, and has been known by Microsoft for some time!
