| 480833 | 2006-08-26 05:39:00 | Recentaly went to reinstall Norton 2004 Internet security on my computer only to find that aspects of the program live the virus checker are no longer supported. This really ticked me off as I still have some months to go on the resubscrition I purchased last year. The culprit I am sure was the updated version of live up date I have to run while installing nortons more generic updates. I reallt think this is pretty shabby of symantec, yes I could write and complain but realistically this will probably be a futile effort. Instead I have decided to install two free programs that hopefully will fill the security void! These programs are Zone Alarm and Avast 4.7 antivirus program. I am aware Zone Alarm is more than capable from the reviews I have read. However, I have never heard much about free virus checkers, and would like to hear from people about the effectiveness of Avast. One thing is for sure, I will never return to using Symantec products ever again. Considering I have been using their products ever since I started computing in the late eighties (know as just Norton then) I think it is a sad show for them - loyal customer bases are improtant! If Avast turns out to be no good I will probably turn my attention to McAfee Internet Security. However, very interested to see peoples opinions on Avast. Maybe PC World could even do a review on free virus programs, something I have not seen much info on with regards to objective reviews. Regards, Shomenno |

| 480835 | 2006-08-26 06:05:00 | I am sure PC World did some reviews on free and subscription anti-virus software and security suites not too long ago. Might be in the last 3-4 issues. I am trying Trend PC-cillin on one of the PC and will ditch NAV once it expires on the other PCs. NAV is using up a lot of resources - getting too big for its shoes. |

It uses 8 engines It scans the network, emails, sites u go to, files u download, has a P2P shield, script blocking, im messenger scanner, webshield, standard shield, and checks emails in outlook. Had it for about 7 mths or so. Havent had a prob with it so far. |
