481555 2006-08-31 00:54:00 Hi there. My computer is making this annoying siren noise. It only seems to go off when I turn on World of Warcraft. When I exit out of the game, the siren noise stops. Does anybody know what the problem could be?

I have 3 fans in my comp and they all are working.

481556 2006-08-31 01:03:00 Is the sound coming from your computer box speaker, or external speakers?

Have you double-checked your sound settings within the game? Eg, are you using the defaults? Is this a new thing or has it always been a problem since you installed the game?

481557 2006-08-31 01:20:00 The sound is coming from my computer.

It's a relatively new problem. It happened a couple weeks ago, but after I restarted my computer, the siren noise stopped and didn't go off again until today. I didn't mess with any of my game settings and didn't install any new addons.

The sound seems like its coming from my CD drive, which is really weird 'cause I didnt even use it for over a month.

481558 2006-08-31 01:36:00 And the game works perfectly fine when the siren noise comes on. My computer in general runs just as it should when the noise comes on. iamnoob (11065)

Try disconnecting the CD drive and see if the noise still happens.

The other thing I can think of is that it may be a temperature alarm warning. Check your temperatures and the maximum temperature that the alarm monitor triggers at in the motherboard's utilities.

Check your temperature settings in the BIOS (hold the Del key while booting).

To try Foxy's suggestion simply remove either the IDE cable or power cable from the CD drive inside the case, temporarily. Be aware of the usual safety precautions - have the power turned off at the wall.

481561 2006-08-31 05:16:00 Siren? High-Low sort of noise? CPU overheat.
Have you overclocked?

481562 2006-08-31 06:01:00 It happens when you start a war game?

Surely it's "just" an air raid warning. Civil Defence advice: "Sit under a table with your head between your legs and kiss your .... goodbye".

It's more likely to be an over-temperature warning than anything else. ;) That needs attention.

481563 2006-08-31 06:15:00 or its an advance warning of the cops coming to check your system for illegally downloaded movies & kiddie porn GrahamT (291)
481564 2006-08-31 07:18:00 I get that too, running FEAR especially, a few mins into the game it starts, I have 2 screens so I watch the temps and fan speeds and that is the little 40cm chipset fan winding up to 7000rpm that causes mine .

What fans are they? (size and position)

Perhapps your case could do with a clean out of all the dust .

Oh, GrahamT, illegally downloaded movies is fine to say, but kiddie porn, that is just a little over the top and really not necessary not to mention childish :groan:

Oh again :p welcome to PressF1 iamnoob :)
