481346 2006-08-30 04:44:00 Hey guys.. this is my first time posting but I need some advice.. My laptop recently broke (I had a Toshiba Satellite... it was less than a year old!) and the guy I took the computer to said something about how the motherboard is broken so I might as well buy a new one...

well I have no idea which laptop to get! Esp, if I should get a Mac or a PC.

Soo... was wondering if anyone could help :).

I mainly use my computer just for internet and browsing and I also do some graphic work on photoshop. I never play games and occasionally I'll use Word or Powerpoint. What would be an ideal laptop for me?

-don't need alot of space
-must be fast.. lots of memory or whatever cause I always seem to run out of it on my laptop
-be able to burn dvd's.
-light weight and easy to carry around daily
-Price range should be preferably under $1500 or less if possible.

Doesn't have to be completely great... I'll probably only use it for a year or so before I buy a new one so no sense buying a super expensive one.

Just post a response with your opinion or what you would get please! Or email me at [edit] or message me on myspace by searching that email... Thank you!

If you like PC's better can you recommend exactly what brand & price too? Thanks.

481348 2006-08-30 04:56:00 Doubt you'll get a Mac for under $1500, and if you do it'll be secondhand or very sluggish. If the laptop is less than a year old the repairs should be covered by the warrenty, take it back to where you bought it from. Pete O'Neil (6584)

As you already seem to have Word Powerpoint and photoshop, you are probably best to stick with a PC, as you would have to purchase macintosh versions od the aforementioned software to run on a Mac laptop

Where are you in NZ

From your first statement there: A Mac.

Because of your second statement - nope, have to be a PC.

481351 2006-08-30 05:55:00 As others have said, a Mac would be best for you, but Apple's laptops start at around $2000 which is outside of your budget. See:

However, if you are planning on buying a new laptop in a year, why not bump your budget up to $2500 now and buy a decent laptop that will last two or three years rather than multiple budget laptops? Either way, I would recommend waiting a month or so until you can get a Core 2 Duo based laptop. :)

481354 2006-08-30 06:59:00 Um, surely the Toshiba came with a warranty (or was it secondhand?). gibler (49)
