| 482129 | 2006-09-02 03:58:00 | Hi I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Home to clear up my hard drive and fix some corrupted files. I have slipstreamed a new bootable disc using the original Windows XP Home OEM disc and latest SP2 download. However, when I go to try and install Windows I get the message that my hard drive is not recognised. I've tried to download drivers/contollers but not sure I've got the right ones. But I thought SP2 should fix this anyway? I have a Intel Pentium 4 2.53GHz computer with Asus P48SX motherboard and 120 GB Seagate Barracuda SATA hard drive. How do I proceed now? Especially which drivers/controllers exactly do I need? Thanks |

If u havent got the mobo cd u haveta go to the ASUS site and download the mobo/LAN/soundcard drivers. The CD if u have one should have an exe file on it, which extract the drivers needed for the SATA. Onto a floppy. Thats if the hdd needs the drivers. Some mobos dont need the SATA drivers, on a clean install. If u have no CD, go here (support.asus.com) type the name of the mobo on the left and download the drivers. Is this SATA the same hdd you've installed XP on previously? If its the first time you've tried to install XP on this SATA, is the power and data cable for it plugged in? |

Computer aslo working fine so yes, hard drive plugged in and working as well. What's a mobo cd????? I've been to ASUS site but heaps of possible downloads and not sure which ones to use! Yes, it's the same SATA drive as current installed XP is on. |

Reboot and change the bootdisk, in the BIOS to the cd and install . This is a clean install . This will wipe the hdd . If u want anything on the hdd, get it / save it to something else . What's a mobo cd????? Motherboard CD . When u buy a motherboard if ur making a system up, it comes with a CD with the drivers needed for LAN/Sound etc . I've been to ASUS site but heaps of possible downloads and not sure which ones to use! You need the Soundmax/soundcard drivers, the LAN drivers, the inf drivers (if any) . Anything to make the thing work! Obviously if u have no LAN or soundcard drivers, the sound and NIC wont work . I've got the cd for the P4S8X-x which is most probably similar to the P4S8x, but no longer use it . Since I replaced it . Since it lagged so much . Yes, it's the same SATA drive as current installed XP is on . Were the drivers for SATA needed before? If not, theyre not needed now . |

This is what u haveta download this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/c-media/cm9739a/whql/cm025_w2kxp.zip) The sound drivers. this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/ide/siside204a.ZIP) The IDE drivers. Maybe this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/ide/pdc20376/pdc20376_15.zip) The Promise / Fastrak driver. this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/lan/sislan/lan_sp116b.zip) For the network card. this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/utils/usb2_sis2kxp.zip) The SIS USB 2 drivers. BUT, SP2 may fix this. this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/vga/sisagp/1.17/AGP_1170.zip) The AGP drivers. this (ftp://dlsvr01.asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/vga/sisagp/1.14/agp114.zip) Something else for the AGP. Taken from here (support.asus.com) |

| 482134 | 2006-09-02 21:32:00 | Thanks . I'll try downloading those drivers but seems I have to load onto a floppy as Windows looks for that after you push F6 when first starting setup . The BIOS is OK I think as the machine does boot to the CDROM and start the Windows setup - it just does not progress as can't find hard drive . I'll give the drivers a go but any idea which is the critical one to make Windows recognise the SATA drive? |

| 482135 | 2006-09-02 21:42:00 | Did it ask for the floppy last time u formatted? For the SATA . If it didnt u dont need the drivers now . It maybe the promise drivers that need extracting to a floppy . It doesnt usually ask for them unless u press the F6 key . Have u tried installing XP without pressing F6 to see if XP installs? And are u sure the power and data cables for the SATA are plugged in? Obviously they are, since you're using it (this SATA), now arent you? |

| 482136 | 2006-09-03 02:18:00 | Yes, it got to the end and said no hard drive found so next time I did the F6 thing and thought I had added some SATA drivers but still no luck in getting Windows to install. | paulb (1103) | ||
