482315 2006-09-03 00:18:00 Am just checking. It is safe to delete files in the Local Settings/Temp folder, isn't it? I have about 800 MB there, when I last checked. And the Temporary internet files?
Thank you

482316 2006-09-03 00:20:00 Get ccleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com)

It'll do it for you.

Yes but is it safe to do it without this program?

482318 2006-09-03 00:32:00 Guess so, but it'll be easier with ccleaner. Speedy Gonzales (78)
482319 2006-09-03 00:54:00 Temp files are just that.Once they have been used then there is no need to hold them for future use.It is safe to delete them. kjaada (253)

You would expect it would be safe to delete them. But you never know that some silly program put a file in there which it relies on. Delete them and leave them in the Recycle Bin for awhile. If your applications continue to operate ok, then remove them permanently.

482321 2006-09-03 01:25:00 Generally yes. Many programs which use temp files would recreate their temp files when they failed to read the deleted files. If a program fails just because of its temp files are deleted, then you should probably throw that program away :) developer (4447)
482322 2006-09-03 02:07:00 Some temporary files are there (and needed) while their owner programmes are running. It would be safest not to delete any with today's date. :D Or shut down all programmes then delete the lot. But ccleaner is probably cautious about that. Windows has a programme to do it, too. 482323 2006-09-03 04:24:00 Nothing wrong in doing it manually, then use moveonboot to get rid of any that are currently in use, Far more likely they will be related to malware or virus then on any legit app.

Though you should do it in safe mode anyhow.

Personally I run cc cleaner, then check all the temp locations manually to see what refused to go, then I kill em and bury the body.

The supplied MS app is worse then a joke.

CCleaner is cautious about which temp files it deletes . It leaves the ones that are one or two days old so it is a fairly safe program to use .

When it comes to clearing out the temp files during a virus/spyware cleanup I prefer to use Cleanup451 as that is far more ruthless .
