| 481993 | 2006-09-02 00:35:00 | I happened to be home on Friday and received a call form Xtra with regard to my 3.5 Broadband connection. Turns out Telecom have relaised that I'm not getting 3.5MB download speeds and would like to offer me some alternative options to make up for the fact I'm not getting the service I pay for. I based our slow connection on our distance from the exchange. I didn't realise how slow my connection was until I went to www.nzadsl.co.nz and did the speed test. The Telecom rep was kind enough to give me the address. A wopping 300kb/s was the result. No live rock concerts or dinosaurs for me. Telecom gave me 3 options: 1 Go down to the next plan 2 Stick with the same plan 3 Change providers My reply: Option 1: If I go down to the next plan can I keep my 10GB data cap?:badpc: Telecom: No Option 2:Given this is my only option for retaining a 10GB plan doesn't really leave me with an option does it?:badpc: Telecom: No Option 3: If I change providers the connection is still coming through your exchange so there will be no difference to the existing problem, will there?:badpc: Telecom: No What was the purpose of the 20 minute call? I'm not sure. Maybe it's the new caring, sharing Telecom? We feel your pain, not that we can actually do anything about it or choose do anything about it. I'm on the North Shore and am now considering Woosh. I'm North of Sunset Rd and can't see the Sky Tower. Will Woosh give me more than 300kb/s? |

O wait a minute.... They've started that, but oddly the focus seems to be in areas like CHCH where we have the option of Telstra-cable @ a genuine 4-10 mb/sec..... Funny that. :( |

| 481995 | 2006-09-02 01:35:00 | The focus will be in areas with lots of people, don't know that much of the South Island will qualify :P | PaulD (232) | ||

Much of CHCH is already done, and rural areas seemed to be high on the list. My other hangout, Oxford was done early this year, 3.5 mb/sec ADSL in the middle of no-where. Did i mention that here dissatisfied telcom customers can jump ship to telstra-cable, and we don't even have to have a phone line to do it? Home, in central CHCH i have a 10mb/sec cable connection. Telcom have to look after CHCH people to keep customers from going elsewhere to get what i have. Why would Telecom prioritise AK customers who can't jump ship? |

They don't care - if they did, they'd be fixing it . |

| 482002 | 2006-09-05 05:36:00 | I'm having exactly the same problem and have been through the same exercise . Getting 550kbps on a 2Mbps plan! They then had the nerve to ask if I'd like to upgrade to the 3 . 5 plan!!:groan: About the NATCOM trial, I have a friend working for a company who has the service . They were running a fibre connection and a DSL back up - but have replaced the lot with the AIRthernet service . He's pumping along at 12Mbps with no data limit!! :D It's a high-end commercial service - they're not yet offering lower-level residential services . I'll be keeping on eye on them . |
