| 483044 | 2006-09-06 23:49:00 | Hi, I need some assistance as scandisk and chkdsk won't work. Scandisk says, Windows was not able to complete checking disk. This happens after Phase One. Chkdsk says the following in a DOS window. I am wanting to fix it up so I can create a newer ghost image I have a older version which works on NTFS but only on a partition (not on a complete HD). I am using windows 2000 on a laptop. Its been v good and if I not did the scandisk or chkdsk I would not had known or speculated its condition. One way of course if rely on it and backup files and when it flops I can format and access a older ghost image of mine and reinstall a number of things on it. I also did a defrag before with 25% defragmentation but that didn't help. Thanks in advance. Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195] (C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp. C:\Documents and Settings\Ray>chkdsk The type of the file system is NTFS. WARNING! F parameter not specified. Running CHKDSK in read-only mode. CHKDSK is verifying files (stage 1 of 3)... Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode. Edit. I have also did CWShredder and Hijackthis and Spybot scan to no avail. I have to run AVG virus on it thou and Ad-aware. |

| 483046 | 2006-09-07 02:30:00 | Thanks. I have used chkdsk /f. It then restarted and did the check. It didn't help, I was still not able to scandisk in windows. I used chkdsk /f /r and it was able to scandisk however when I ran Norton Ghost version 5, it still picked up bad sectors, a 4.5GB space I had errors after 3GB was done. Before I couldn't even get pass the first step when it analysed my partition. |

| 483048 | 2006-09-07 06:16:00 | Yes, I have tried in Safe Mode. Scandisk didn't even complete so I resorted to the chkdsk command which worked a bit better but still had bad sectors. Thanks for the advice. I will look into that, or on the other hand I can continue to back my stuff up and when it flops I can format and reload the ghost image. The laptop is some yrs old but it works for normal things, eventually I may get a custom built desktop PC :) Thanks again. |
