| 483069 | 2006-09-07 09:33:00 | B.M. - OMG, forget Xtra - dump that idea QUICK.! Xnet is better, but Slingshot is even better better - I have been with them for 3 weeks now, $29.95 for 3 Gb, 256/128, and I am happy with it all, never ever wanting to go back to dialup (ten yes 10 yrs on dialup!). Xnet only gives you 1 Gb, and as everyone told me, once you start using broadband you find ways to use the data! Free modem and free connection. Check out Slingshot - BTW, I said a few months ago I would never go with Slingshot after seeing their blonde CEO on TV - she turned me off - ha ha. |

Slingshot is better - if you have your toll calls with Slingshot. For many people, that's not a big deal and if you happen to be one of those people, then go with Slingshot. However, if you don't want to shift your toll calls away from whoever is providing them at the moment, then Xnet is probably better. The Slingshot package goes up by $10 if you don't use them for toll calling, which makes it $39.95 p/m for 3GB at 256kbps. Compared that to Xnet's next package up - $37.95 for 2GB at 2Mbps - 8x faster than the Slingshot plan. And going by the comments you've made, the data allowance isn't really the key issue, but provided you're not in a poor coverage area, you'll appreciate the extra speed more than the extra data - at least to start with. I've mentioned this many times before (people will be getting sick of hearing this), but pretty much every broadband package you see you have to add $10 to the advertised cost to compare it to Xnet's - otherwise, you have to shift your tolls across as well, and a lot of people I've talked to seem to prefer not to go through that hassle. :2cents: |

| 483072 | 2006-09-07 10:41:00 | Just to help you with my browsing habits, I don’t play online games, download movies or upload more than 10megs per month. <snip> All my browsing is sites like Press F1 and with Dial-Up the little computers on the bottom quick launch taskbar sit doing nothing most of the time. I’ve just looked at my inbox and there is a whopping 600 messages taking up 175meg which have taken 4 months to accumulate. In that case 1GB would be ample for you as long as you don't do what a lot of people do - find more ways to use the increased speed! :p |

| 483074 | 2006-09-07 20:29:00 | I also am using Xnet - as does my brother and father. Xtras $29.95 plan is useless - the data limit is far too small, even if you are only checking your email and doing the occasional bit of browsing. |

| 483075 | 2006-09-07 20:45:00 | Wish I had broadband, a 100mb file at 2.2kbps drives you barmy! 100X1000 = 100000kb 100000 = 45454.546 seconds (3.d.p) ______ 2.2 45454.546 = 757.576 minutes _________ 60 757.576 _________ = 12.626 HOURS!!!!!!!!! 60 |

I just assumed that no one would mind having their tolls with Slingshot especially since most of us would be taking business away from Telecom! :D |

| 483077 | 2006-09-08 00:03:00 | It isn't always feasable to change toll providers, and Xnet doesn't make you, and also does NOT tie you into a contract . We live rural, and with the prices we get from Telecom to ring our nearest city, no toll provider can match it, so it wasn't practical for me to change tolls, and I didn't want to be tied into a contract just in case broadband does open up wide open with far better deals . Ps, you do realise that every page you open is classed as a download, didn't you? It's just that some people don't realise that . And no we don't download heaps, we only surf, email etc, but have used over 1/2 our broadband allowance, but can't see the sense in downgrading it, as we would bust the next one down, that is only 4gig . |
