483941 2006-09-12 08:07:00 No, you can't 'make' an XP CD...

I am all out of ideas now...

Unless you try slaving it inot another PC (with XP installed) and see if that picks it up

483942 2006-09-12 08:13:00 How would I go obout doing that? joemac (9739)
483943 2006-09-12 08:55:00 Take it out of your PC and plug it into another PC which is SATA capable, there is no need to worry about the jumper settings as they should be fine.

The PC should boot into windows. and hopefully you should see your HDD

483944 2006-09-12 09:01:00 mmmm ok. It might be easier for me to find a small IDE HD and use that to try and install an OS and see if I can move from there. As matter of inteest my HD is listed as The third IDE master in BIOS. Is that right? The HD is a Seagate Barracuda ST3160811AS. joemac (9739)
483945 2006-09-12 10:04:00 Third IDE??!! that doesn't sound right... it shoud say something like SATA, I can't quite remember what mine says... The_End_Of_Reality (334)
483946 2006-09-12 10:10:00 I can find no reference to anything sata on the BIOS. As far as I can see it is definatly plugged in to the number one sata port. The order lists nothing at primary, dvd drive at second, the HD at third(as an IDE) and nothing at forth. I am confused joemac (9739)
483947 2006-09-12 10:15:00 Jeez your quick :p

I jsut rebooted to look at my config and it says detecting IDE drives and it says this after it displays the actual IDE drives (160Gb HDD, CD RW and DVD RW) and then says physical SATA 1 and then my 300Gb SATA II drive. so after thinking about it that should not be a problem.

But your best best will be find an IDE drive install on that and see if it picks up the SATA drive then

483948 2006-09-12 10:19:00 To verify the integrity of the drive? The trouble with that is that I live in Hicksville. And I am a hick. joemac (9739)
483949 2006-09-12 10:21:00 Ok I just read your post again. And I don't understand? So I am Ahick. joemac (9739)
483950 2006-09-12 10:31:00 To see if Windows can pick up the drive from with in, or even download Seatools and run that, you say the BIOS picks it up so download Seatools and run the full test. (this will test the integrity of the drive)

Don't worry about my config, yours sounds fine on second thought...

So find an IDE hard drive and install on that, preferably Windows XP and put the SATA in there and see if Windows picks it up...
