| 484172 | 2006-09-12 10:33:00 | My son is changing computers in a small business that he is in. He intends to give the old one to a local trust that recycles old ones. He does not want to hand it over with the hard drive contents intact, and realises that reformatting doesn't clear the data. I think that I have read or heard of a utility that writes garbage to a disk, thus obliterating the contents, making them unrecoverable. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Brucem |

| 484178 | 2006-09-12 22:46:00 | Yes, Spybot does, but how are you going to complely wipe the whole drive beyond recovery from in Windows? the answer is you can't DBAN would be my option of choice. But even if you destroy the pins, this does not wipe the drive and is easy to recover. I have heard of the magnet, but I am not sure if it works... people say it does, but the only way to find out is to test it |
