483790 2006-09-11 00:12:00 Windows Messenger has recently kept 'popping up' while I am using Outlook Express.
Is there anyway I can configure it to stay hidden?
Hoping someone can help.

483791 2006-09-11 00:40:00 Check this out to disable Windows Messenger from loading during OE startups ->www.randyrants.com

Alternatively, you can completely uninstall it via Add / Remove Programs in Control Panel.

Cheers :)

483792 2006-09-11 00:44:00 Does uninstalling it actually get rid of it? I found I had to manually delete it from the Program Files, and every time Automatic Updates updated, it would be back again! vader (11117)
483793 2006-09-11 00:56:00 Unfortunately this program is not listed in 'add/remove programs' .

Messing around with 'RegEdit exe' is beyond my capabilities - is there an easier way?

483794 2006-09-11 01:04:00 Oooops, Sorry, I have found the add/remove 'windows component' part - but what do I do next?
Half the boxes are ticked - I don't want to remove anything I shouldn't ...
Do I untick all of the boxes - except Windows Messenger?

483795 2006-09-11 01:11:00 If you open Windows messenger then tools > options and click on the preferences tab - Make sure there is a tick in "Allow Windows Messenger to run in the background"

Dont know whether this will help but give it a try if it is not already ticked.

483797 2006-09-11 01:23:00 I just delete it from my Program Files. It works until the next update. Or you can use something like the TuneUp Utilities, System Optimiser, which seems to do a good job of disabling it, and gives you the option of re-enabling at anytime. vader (11117)
483798 2006-09-11 01:26:00 Thanks Safari. That was quick and painless! vader (11117)
