484892 2006-09-24 04:05:00 Anybody else had DNS issues with iHug also where sometimes it just comes up with "404 - Page does not exist" when I know damn well that Google.co.nz is just fine!

As for speeds resetting at night - No go.. Ive tried monitoring my downloads etc, stopping and restarting the router, then restarting the downloads at time XYZ (esp in the AM around 2ish) and there's no joy. I KNOW that there are people uploading, there's THOUSANDS of SEEDS (Not leechers, SEEDS) conencted, not to mention I connect to a friends VPS in the US and it ROCKETS down just fine.

Maybe I should give Ihug a ring, see if they'll let me speak with NoC or something, I dunno, but Im seriously not impressed :(

484894 2006-09-24 08:49:00 Its not just ihug now. I think this is isps next move. offer attractive plans and port shape them. whats the point of moving to different isp?. gum digger (6100)
484895 2006-09-24 09:12:00 I just hope ISP's don’t port shape port 21 (FTP), but I am pleased that ISP’s are port shaping p2p/torrent traffic as p2p/torrent traffic is a waste of bandwidth & costing ISP’s money. stu161204 (123)

Hmm..But for me I don't watch much tv here.I mainly download the Hong Kong dramas by using BT and you cant buy them here in nz.Costs too much to buy.If things were cheap and I was rich.I wouldn't be using Bt

484897 2006-09-24 09:36:00 stu, are you with Ihug? I havent even mentioned anything about torrents and p2p traffic. My gripe is specifically with an unacceptable level of service. The ability to actually stay online for even a few minutes, thats not too much to ask isnt it? And p2p/torrent traffic is a perfect forum for swapping files, and if i decide i want to get a copy of linux ubuntu via a torrent site then thats fine! The ISP charges x amount of dollars for x amount of data . We the customer pay the charges and we should have the control over how we manage our data cap. All ISP's have the right to manage the network bandwidth as they see fit but i think its obvious that this network management somehow has gone over the top. Ihug is one of the largest ISP's in new zealand. Wheres this "costing ISP's money" if a customer cant make use of their data cap in full. The ISP wins dont they? So for all the customers who cant use their entire data cap through no choice of their own, theyre getting short changed. Bit like going into a shop and buying a $2 bag of 150 gram chips . Ive paid $2 to get 150grams of chips.. I didnt pay $2 for the shopkeeper to take out the large chips and leave me crumbs. Term_X (560)
484898 2006-09-24 09:43:00 Its not costing ISPs money as you put Stu

Bittorrent makes up roughly 80%+ of the internets traffic. Its here to stay regardless of weather you like it or not. Personally I found it the best way of distributing my Linux distro when I was working on it. Without it I would have been absolutely stuck!

And thats just it, WorldcomExchange (XNet?) was the ISP one of my workmates was on. He changed because they WERE shaping Port #21 (He did around 30GB FTP transfer each month).

I havent yet rang Ihug, I know one of the girls left my team a year back to go to the Ihug helpdesk, Im going to see if she's still there on Monday and see if I can chat to her, shes awesome and is always a great help.

Ninjabeer, I dont think it matters if your reasons are legit or what Stu would call a waste, at the end of the day I dont like the idea of them shaping it at all :-/

484900 2006-09-24 10:28:00 P2P looks like a dream now, Even http performance gone down. web pages load slow, msn takes time to sign-in, the max speed i get from ftp is 20kb/s.

i am thinking to move on woosh, they have not thought of shapping yet.
