484881 2006-09-22 06:42:00 I know that my workmate left WorldNet for iHug because they were throttling his FTP downloads (he did a lot of up / down ftp traffic).

Its definately ONLY the certain protocols traffic with iHug (They are claiming ignorance on the helpdesk and wont speak to NoC and ask them), I was getting good speeds over Usenet last night.

It seriously sucks.. I wanna be able to get the latest distro from Gentoo via bittorrent, but trying would take aaaages so there's just precious little point. I may as well just use the FTP / http / rsync downloads.

Anybody know people in high places at iHug that can at least be straight up and honest with me and say "Yes, we ARE traffic shaping"!?!

484882 2006-09-22 14:27:00 i cant really afford more than 50 man, actrix isnt too bad aswel. btw wat happens once you finish ur daily limit.?

It goes fast, then slow once you exceed... Then, wait till 2am (more like 2:15am sometimes), and then, the speed will be reset again, and downloads will just pick up!

Yeah, but just bear in mind you won't exactly get the full 2Mbps... But at least you get something like 800kbps consistently (sometimes more of course on good days), which is pretty decent and enough for me anyway.

484884 2006-09-23 00:54:00 i used to be on wired country iconz and then decided to restart my wired country ihug account.. the performance drop is huge, spoke with a friend on ihug dsl and he says this is common, seems to go from full bandwidth sometimes to virtually nothing on a regular basis .. whatever ihug is doing at their end is killing the performance.

im going to call wired country and ask what exactly is the reason for the performance drop between the different ISP's

484885 2006-09-23 01:20:00 I am fighting back against Ihug (my ISP) by going on a download strike.
They won't get another byte from me until further notice! That should show them who is boss. :annoyed: ...........................

484886 2006-09-23 01:21:00 with regards to my last message, i hadnt even got to seeing how p2p performs yet. it was the general surfing and time loading regular pages etc. id imagine if htttp traffic was horrible, p2p must be worse! Term_X (560)
484887 2006-09-23 03:41:00 carrying on with the ihug topic, my fd happens to have this issue as well.
except that HER net, pauses every 15 minutes.

so when skyping, it will hang up every 15 minutes
and on gunbound (internet game) , will plunge into unbelievable lag every 15 minutes.
i wonder what's that suppose to be?

484890 2006-09-24 00:04:00 i kinda the fd mean that as well :-)

okay back to ihug... 7 months with Wired Country Iconz.. smooth, could stay online for a week at a time, even though all i did was just check emails, was nice to know the connection was so stable.. loved it and a whole lot more.. restarted with Ihug and its been downhill ever since.. in two days, ive had more connection drops than i ever had with Iconz in 7 months.. last night, i couldnt log in between 6pm and midnight, thats a hell of a long time.. but im a kind hearted person.. im full of forgiveness ;-) today, ahh i can log in.. sweeeeet, i can surf 2 pages before it dies again! okay, disconnect and cant reconnect for perhaps half an hour. connect again . success, get to stuff.co.nz, read one headline.. great lets try the sports section, nopes.. dies.. im online but i cant anywhere... this is definately not a wired country problem and if anyone at ihug's technical helpdesk tries to say it is.. watch out lol youre asking.. why did i go back to Ihug? well i closed my account but wanted to take advantage of an old pricing plan so i restarted it. ive been logged on now for about 5 minutes so i could post this message but its a good guarantee that itll time out again and die... *prays this post is successful without loggin in again*
