484871 2006-09-21 08:23:00 or you could do what most people do & write out the word bit or byte to prevent any confusion in the cases where you can't work it out from the context Greven (91)
484872 2006-09-21 08:48:00 You are still not differentiating B and b, so your speed is still unknown.

Is your "110kbps" actually 110 kBps? Because 110kbps is only 13.7 kBps

If you don't understand the difference between a kb and a kB just say, as I would agree that while 13.7 kBps is poor, but 110 kBps is still quite good at near to 1Mbps.
110 Kilo Bytes Per Second, I'm on ADSL plan not dial-up. 3.5Mbps plan. And yes it is 1.1 Mbps.

484873 2006-09-21 09:02:00 So what you say guys!!. Should all customers go on Strike??
Noo.. i think moving to another ISP is easier and faster.

I am thinking of Orcon's Advanced 40 Plan [ 40 GB, 256/128 kbps, Free to transfer to orcon] but 12 month contract

or

Worldnets. Flat 256K 20G 256K/ 128K 20 GB $49.95. $44 to transfer.

484875 2006-09-21 09:04:00 Lets just use this torrent as an example:
ftp.citylink.co.nz

Now, downloading from my server in the US, I get SUPERB transfer of 200KB/s+ which is as it should be
From my local ihug connection I get pathetic 13KB/s - 35KB/s

What do you all get when trying the above torrent?

Been meaning to try this download, just out of interest, to see how my connection fares.

Avg d/l: 218kBps (2Mb Xnet connection)
Peak d/l: 290kBps

Or Xnet (http://www.xnet.co.nz):

2Mb/128kb 10gig - $42.95 (+ 2 x 5 gig overage packages @ $10 ea = $62.95)

Worldnet is $49.95 ONLY if you change your toll calls to Worldnet. Xnet don't. So Xnet is only $3 more, for a connection that is 8 x faster than the Worldnet option. And you can download Ubuntu full speed! (see above)

256/128kbps??? Too slow for my liking..... Nice reliable plan for downloads to be plodding along... Too slowly though...

Why not try Actrix? I'm on the 2Mbps/128kbps, $55 (now $60) plan, for 700mb/DAY. And my bittorrent downloads now going at around 90KB/s. Not exactly blitzing along, but still, better than the maxiumum 30KB/s ur gonna get on a 256kbps connection...

Just IMO, here are the few subscribers I know are "bad" for BT...

Ihug, Quicksilver, Worldnet (before, don't know how they are now)....
