1397595 2015-03-29 22:27:00 “The Privy Council has recommended that Teina Pora not be re-tried for the rape and murder of Susan Burdett.

The parties in New Zealand were notified this morning.

Crown and defence had filed submissions last week on whether Mr Pora should be tried for a third time of the 1992 crimes”.

So we have another guy who was set-up and does 21years before it’s found the Police Withheld Evidence and Paid Witnesses!

Isn’t it time we started filling our jails with crooked cops, they can't be hard to find?

I believe that is the case but at the time of the trial/s I don't know whether his foetal alcohol problem was known, or presented as evidence by his lawyer.

Yes he did Paul, but he is Intellectually Handicapped and had a mental age of 9 or 10 at the time of the crime.

“"A direct consequence of his brain-based disability was that his mental age for the purpose of understanding and communicating was between nine and 10 years old," Pora's lawyer Jonathan Krebs told the court.”

As we all know, evidence form 9 & 10 year olds can be risky at best, so why the Police withheld evidence and paid witnesses is what I’d like to know.

1397600 2015-03-31 08:43:00 If foetal alcohol syndrome becomes a valid excuse to quash a conviction, then half our prison population will be lining up for release and compensation.

As for compensation. Someone has somehow come up with a figure as high as $20M for Pora.

Hard to see how they get this figure. He'd likely not have ever been a computer geek creating widely distributed apps, or an entrepreneur, or scientist or academic or prime time TV host, so it's not as if he ever had a credible shot at earning even $2M in his lifetime.

Yet he's had free food and lodgings all this time, without the bother of having to re-present himself periodically to welfare to get his allowances extended.
Apart from the company he had inside, he may have been done a favour by being locked up already.

As for David Bain, well I can't really see his paper round having amounting to millions either... certainly not if he was having to pay his own way in the world with food, power, rates, insurance, taxes.

1397601 2015-03-31 17:42:00 I hope Teina gets some compensation - perhaps a million. But it'd be a travesty if we as tax payers have to fork out multi millions. Why not sue the inept (corrupt?) police individuals to pay?

As for Bain... he's already served two sentences... one for his murders, another one for life for his hideous face. He should just be left alone to hide inside a small dark cave somewhere.

Yes & no. From Wiki
"Pora was held for the next four days during which he was questioned about the case for 14 hours - without a lawyer. During the course of this drawn out interview, much of which was recorded on video, he frequently changed his story about what happened"

1397603 2015-04-01 04:17:00 So let’s see here, you get an intellectually handicapped guy with the intellectual ability of a 9 or 10 year old and interrogate him for 14hrs until you get a confession under duress. Then, you only release the evidence that suits you and bribe witnesses.

Police work at its finest if I may say so.

To the Cops involved I say “Mind fingers,Clang!” :D
