1397206 2015-03-24 17:45:00 I'm off to Napier to visit the parents.
My dad in hospital...should have been ages ago.

He has an issue that prevents him sleeping properly and hence has gone downhill fast...he fell apparently 3 times.

Complained about being sore but avoided doc.

Hospital done scans, he has fractured his pelvis (that will heal) and his shoulder. Apparently that won't and he needs surgery.

he is severely anemic among other things so that is a problem for surgery...

What I found incredible, and the point of the post, is his GP has been prescribing Tramadol for ages...and told my mum he shouldn't be taking it as he thought my dad was bleeding internally as a result.

So why did he keep writing out the scripts?!!? My dad didn't even go in, he'd just phone for more prescriptions.

There's a term for docs like that......

1397209 2015-03-24 21:50:00 The Law has to change. At present the incompetence of such Doctors and their like can hide behind the fact that they can't be sued for malpractice. They have to be put in a position where they need to take personal responsibility for their actions/non-actions. Do a good and proper job or face the consequences, their pocket or gaol! Bryan (147)
1397210 2015-03-24 22:17:00 I recently had a procedure, it annoyed me to see the look of someone who thinks he is doing me a favour as I hand over 2G Cicero (40)

1397212 2015-03-24 22:41:00 As a counterbalance, in the nearly 40 years we have been here, we have had most excellent service from GPs, hospital doctors, surgeons and specialists, I can't think of anything untoward over all those years. Terry Porritt (14)
1397213 2015-03-24 23:01:00 Sadly I have heard (and experienced) numerous issues with all of them.

On the plus side the lung specialist husband is seeing is terrific.

On the sad side she said don't go near Middlemore, she almost resorted to committing violence and broke her mother out before they did more damage. Her words.
Hmm, lucky her mum has a doc in the family I guess.

Don't you mean Muddlemore?
Sorry to hear about your Dad.
Doctors come in assorted shapes, sizes, competence, good, bad and ugly, the same as the rest of us. They are human beings and it is in our own interest and that of our families to at least try and have a GP we like and trust. Stand your ground if you feel the prescribed medication isn't working for you. A good GP will listen. Don't umm and ahh, make short notes and take them with you.
Unfortunately, so many work in clinics that are owned by people who are not doctors.
