1396821 2015-03-19 22:39:00 I have had a Nexus 7 since they first came out, and have been very happy with it. The ASUS build quality seems to me to be very good, and because of the links to Google, Android OS updates come out pretty well straight away. Compared with Samsung that is, where they may not come at all.

I feel the form factor of the Nexus 7 is getting a bit confining, and am wondering about upgrading to a larger tablet. I have not been able to get my hands on a Nexus 9 to see whether the extra two inches is significant or not, or whether I should consider something else.

Is there anyone out there in PressF1 land who has moved up from the N7 to the N9? I would be keen to hear your opinion(s) about whether there is any advantage to upgrading.

Thanks in advance.

1396822 2015-03-19 23:51:00 If you're enjoying the N7 then you'll quite likely enjoy the N9 upgrade. I don't have one, but I've had a bit of a play on a mates. The screen size difference isn't *that* much vs the N7, but it's enough to "make sense" to use a tablet over the likes of my Xperia Z3 phone.
They're nice little devices :D I'm surprised PBTech doesn't have one you can have a bit of a play with ?

1396823 2015-03-20 00:02:00 I have one John. I like it a lot and the extra screen real estate is worth having for me. I have yet to find anything that I do not like about it, having said that I still have and use (mostly as a reader in bed) my Nexus 7 (2013). I use the Nexus 9 with a blue tooth keyboard pretty much the same as I did with a laptop and it handles anything I want to do so far.
The choice of Tablets now days can be a bit confusing I guess you just have to go with what suits your individual tastes. The Nexus 9 comes with Lollipop and unlike some brands does not come with a whole lot of preloaded garbage that is not wanted.

1396824 2015-03-20 01:25:00 Thanks both of you. I live in a rural town in Nth Canty so can't lay my hands on new devices unless they are Apple or Samsung. Local Noel Leeming is being evasive...

Wife has an iPad and we both want to have similar devices so I can trouble shoot hers when something goes wrong. At the mo I get v frustrated with trying to sort out some issues with AppleOS.

We could both get a Samsung device each tomorrow, and they look pretty, but they are a pain because of the way Samsung layers heaps of their own stuff over Android. You also don't get the OS updates from them in a timely fashion.

I guess I could buy her a Nexus 9 and stick with my N7 - at least we would have the same platform!

1396825 2015-03-20 02:10:00 PB Tech have the Nexus 9 on special. It would be worth while asking your local Noel Leaming to match their price the branch I deal with here will usually talk sense.
My wife also has a Nexus 7 my thinking on that issue being the same as yours. :)

1396826 2015-03-20 07:22:00 Nexus 9 is believed to be the most powerful android tab. It has similar size of Apple’s iPad. It is larger than the Nexus 7 but smaller than Nexus 10. It has an 8.9 inch display and a stylish design created by HTC that includes a thin bezel, brushed metal sides, clean lines and a soft grip back.In additional to the superior looks Nexus 9 has improved hardware. It has a long lasting 6700 mAh battery, 8 megapixel rear camera and is powered by the mighty NVIDA Tegra K1 processor. NVIDA Tegra K1 is a quad-processor that support 64-bit architecture. It has 2GB RAM that allows it to handle heavy duty graphics and multi-tasking smoothly. It has also got a two BoomSound speakers that is a great addition by HTC. HTC has a great reputation for its HTC One M8 set sound quality as well. All of these features allows the Nexus 9 to be an ultimate Android gaming tablet although it is surprising that Google is marketing the Nexus 9 as a productivity tool. It has a separate keyboard that magnetically attaches to the tablet. willieaames (17340)
1396827 2015-03-20 09:36:00 Nah get yourself a N9 and get the wifey one as well! :D

Agree re: Samsung and TouchWiz, not a fan at all personally.

1396828 2015-03-24 01:47:00 Hi Chaps. Sorry for the delay in replying but I have been over the ditch visiting an old school friend who is very ill.

All good stuff from all except the Banned One - wee Willie, who maybe works for HTC? I think I will go into the local Noel Leeming and try to talk them into getting one in for me to handle, on a no obligations basis. I am assuming the build quality will be comparable to that of ASUS, and the software situation will be just as good at least.

I will let you know what happens, but in the meantime, thank you for your advice. Cheers.

I had a quick play with one at PBTech yesterday - very impressed. Although it was a white-backed one - I imagine it would look grubby fairly quickly, and would need regular cleaning...

Pity my budget (or SWMBO) isn't able to cater for a new toy...

1396830 2015-03-24 04:06:00 It looks as though you can only get black with the 32 Gb model, and I have found with my Nexus 7 that it would be silly for me to spend the extra dosh for more internal capacity - if I need extra storage I just use a pen drive, which is cheap as chips. My current stick is one that is normal USB at one end, and mini USB at the other. It is 32 Gb, and the only thing wrong with it is that it is so small I could easily lose it. John H (8)
