There are some scripts on their website you can setup on a PC/Mac so the IP is always up to date. Thats one good thing about Telstra ( vodafone) cable --- You get a static IP address by default :) | wainuitech (129) | ||

I have access to a 7x larger library vs the NZ one though, and I save $1 per-month. Seems worth it to me! |

My point was using Netflix library from various countries you get an even bigger choice then just using the U.S. one. So can you change Netflix regions without making changes? |

I have my router set to intercept all DNS and force it to my ISP so I get Worldmode DNS on the Chromecast (Which is hard-coded by Google to use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, so this gets around it). |

| 1397083 | 2015-04-02 00:38:00 | Apparently the Australian Netflix is quite limited, down from ~8500 down to ~1300 titles. That's a 7,000 title difference. Word on the street is the NZ Netflix is even *more* limited than Australia, due to the fact Neon and Lightbox have already got rights to a large number of shows. If you have a US Netflix account, keep it. Chill, I had/have a US account, but it was a hassle to set up the laptop, HDMI cable it to the TV, and get Hulu going correctly. Since our old 42in TV died a month ago I found that our new 55in telly has easier access to Netflix (and other internet sites), so I started using NZ Netflix and like you say the titles are a fraction of what the US has. Here is my problem now... If I want to connect my desktop to the TV, is the only way by using an HDMI cable? It would have to be a long cable, at least 8m, and I don't know if this is possible. Actually my desktop PC does not have HDMI output but I was thinking of getting a graphics card (to use 2 PC screens at my desk) so that would give me HDMI out. I do have Chromecast which works great (Chrome on my PC to the TV) but Netflix detects the Chromecast dongle as being in NZ. So if I want to watch US Netflix on the TV, is a long HDMI cable the only way? Thanks. |

Ie what method were you using for fooling netflix into working in NZ? If you were browser based (hola etc) then yes that sounds like your only option is to use the browser again. If you were (and are?) using a DNS service like unblock us or unotelly, then there shouldn't be any difference...your telly being in nz should be able to obtain the netflix app, and then you just sign in to your US account as normal. Then using the region switcher on your DNS service you can choose whatever region you want. For the chromecast you need to add a step where on your router you send DNS requests to googles dns servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. to nothing) else you'll always be retricted to the NZ catalog. |

| 1397085 | 2015-04-02 00:59:00 | I haven't got any experience using a chromecast or US netflix so I can't help with that but as for the 8M long HDMI cable you can definitely do that. However at lengths > 3-5M the quality of the cable does start to matter a bit more so a cheap cable may or may not work well and you might have to shell out for a better one. Also if your PC has DVI that can easily be converted to HDMI with a simple plug but won't have audio which you'd need to connect separately. There may be adapters that allow audio to be injected I haven't looked. | dugimodo (138) | ||
