1397483 2015-03-29 01:58:00 I think it was more a vote against the other 2.
Well, he has a mouth....um, his ability to make any meaningful changes now? Pretty slim I'd say.

That is it PC. By elections are traditionally a chance to stick it to the incumbent party and there is no surprise in the current result up North. It could make the next general election interesting :)

1397484 2015-03-29 02:36:00 The commies are reading a bit too much into a by election prefect (6291)
1397485 2015-03-29 02:56:00 Act leader David Seymour said he's looking at challenging the result in court if Mr Peters wins....ha ha!

Lol, ACT :p

1397486 2015-03-29 03:00:00 The commies are reading a bit too much into a by election Tit for Tat :p If it were the other way around and the National MP had won there would have been similar as in told you lot so, never a doubt etc.

Bit of crystal balling here -- If there were other by-elections ( for what ever reason) and if National lost more they would be in trouble for sure. Its only been six months since the general electron and already there's a fair amount of mistrust and doubt in other areas.------- Only time will tell, nothing else may change, no one knows until its put to the test.

1397487 2015-03-29 03:09:00 I laughed at the way Winston exploited Nationals "Pork Barrel Politics" when they pledged Northland $69M to replace 10 bridges & Winston pulled the line “Well look at that, only been campaigning a couple of days and got you $69M already”.

What a response, and you can’t really argue with him.

Then there was Key’s Nail-Fail HERE (imgur.com)

And supposedly he plays golf? Well I know he’s been photographed with Obama on a golf course but honestly, with eye-hand co-ordination like that he would have a handicap the size of the National Debt.

Off course Winston “Nailed Key” again with THIS (www.stuff.co.nz) one.

Interesting times ahead for us and sleepless nights for Key. :D

1397488 2015-03-29 03:43:00 Lol nice one B.M-- Never really looked at what that nail thing was all about. Key looked to have as much co-ordination and strength as a drunk person with a broken arm.

Well I know he’s been photographed with Obama on a golf course Maybe Obama's caddy was having a day off, someone had to do it ;)

1397489 2015-03-29 04:36:00 Yeah, the first time he hit it he missed it, and the second time he hit in the same place. :D B.M. (505)
1397490 2015-03-29 04:52:00 Yes it's a sad day when the leader of any country can't hammer a single nail in with aplomb, this should be the first test for all aspiring politicians to pass before being accepted into a party.

This is a base-line level of manual skill which should be a requirement to possess by anyone making decisions about the future of a country, and I would include women in the requirement as well.

Lack of fine motor skills required to carry out this task shows a severe lack of ability which every adult should have.

Also shows an inability to emphasize with most/all manual workers in the country which I think is demonstrably the case with our leader, key (lack of capitalization deliberate).

1397491 2015-03-29 05:06:00 Interesting - looking at the stats for the previous election NZ First almost punched Labour into 3rd place, so Labour may have saved themselves further embarrasment by 'gifting' NZF their Labour voters. If they'd tried to compete they'd have probably had an even more embarrasing result, being pile-driven into an almost invisible 3rd spot.

But certainly the #1 message from it all is a serious slap in the face to National, coz a lot of Nat voters have jumped to NZF as well.

An earlier comment in the thread about the poor state of provincial Northland is very, very true.
There are many, particularly up towards Rawene / Opononi who cope without electricity, using candles at night.

Houses can look like abandoned shacks, and the farmland seems to be for grazing rusty car wrecks. Seems to work though, because the wrecks keep multiplying.
Might even be enviro frienldly grazing, as whatever 'deposits' these cars make into the soil seem to really encourage the grass to grow, coz all the wrecks are surrounded by long, long grass.

Education standards can be pretty scary too. Some of the folks seem barely above a ferral status. There's even tales of kids who've never travelled as far as Auckland and seen real city.

1397492 2015-03-29 05:18:00 I think you make a very good point. When our leaders cannot relate to what a regular persons work day is like, or a regular persons weekly budget is like, then they really are questionable material as leaders, as they have no idea what life is like for their masses.

Key's attempt with the hammer is laughable. At least Osborne tackled it with confidence afterwards.

A few small words in Keys defense - hammering from the side is tricky. He'd have been better to stand behind the billboard and to hammer towards himself - although given his poor coordination he'd have risked hammering himself.
Also the timber showed old rusted nail holes, so the wood was maybe quite aged, dry and hard.

I think the sad thing is that Osborne has been unfairly tainted by circumstances that were not of his making. He'll likely be abandoned as a future candidate because he'll always be associated with this result, but if he'd stood in any other election he'd have probably sailed to an easy victory.
