| 1407027 | 2015-08-19 03:08:00 | Its a nice board, ticks my boxes and then some. I only have to get the CPU Ram and Board this time so no other components to worry about I don't care about the cost. Do you really need a $900 motherboard, could those $ be better spent on other components ? (in 3 years it will only be worth bugger all) Need is relative and I am getting de ja vu with this question :) |

| 1407028 | 2015-08-19 03:26:00 | Got a link to this certified list, I am not having much luck finding it. Looking at this board. GIGABYTE Z170X-GAMING G1 INTEL Z170, LGA1151, DDR4, USB3.1, ATX, SUPPORT SLI/CROSSFIRE www.computerlounge.co.nz You didn't try very hard, googled the board, clicked the Gigabyte result, saw a tab labled CPU/Memory support and downloads, found this www.gigabyte.com |

| 1407030 | 2015-08-19 03:40:00 | Ok well, I was referrring to the motherboard manufacturers list. They almost always have one but it's generally a small list they have tested and of limited use. When I ordered my new gear from computerlounge I opted for the pre-test option so they would confirm it all worked before shipping. It arrived in the motherboard box with the CPU & RAM already fitted. My Hyper 212 EVO bolted straight on no problem and temps seem ok so far. |

That would be great but so far I am not sure the Ram will come from Computer Lounge, although the other parts will. |

Could be a big mistake if you run into issues, I would get everything from 1 supplier. If something goes flaky or not 100%, would you rather take all the parts back to the one retailer & tell them to sort it out, or have to deal with 2 or 3 retailers all of whom will try & blame the parts they didnt sell you. |

| 1407033 | 2015-08-19 22:12:00 | So far the same retailer depends on the Ram. I have told that Corsair and Mushkin use "whatever cheapest ram is available and rebrand it to theirs" (hence the query on generic ram) and that G-Skill always have the same constant high quality stuff. I do not know if this is true.... |

I do not know if this is true.... None of the RAM brands make the actual chips, so you could assume they are all rebranded lots of BS out there on the interwebs , Sure , Corasir is just a brand name, they do just rebrand other manufactures stuff, but that doesnt make it any worse than the so called ~good~ RAM brands . Do Gskill manufacture in house ? Are the cheaper RAM IC's used really any worse ? has anyone done any REAL test to prove/disprove this I'd bet alot of it is marketing hype 99% of the PC's out there are using generic RAM , if it was really an issue we would all know by now |

I wanted to run it past you. |

| 1407036 | 2015-08-20 11:58:00 | The only reason I see to buy "brand name" RAM is if you want a better warranty, faster access time, and heatsinks (which may or may not do anything useful). Other than that, I have seen no big difference in the real world in terms of reliability between bargain basement RAM and high end. For an extreme example, I used a 4GB pair of DDR3 DIMMs in my main machine for 3+ years without issue. These DIMMs are literally the cheapest, most generic RAM sticks I have ever seen. I bought them from eBay. The memory ICs all had the part numbers lasered off, the PCBs don't match in layout exactly, the SPD data has no brand or serial nunmber, and the label is a plain white sticker with "DDR3-1333 2GB" and the timings printed on it. But guess what? They ran at the timings printed on the label, they passed memtest, the machine never crashed, and that RAM was working still when I upgraded last year to 8GB, to some more budget (but this time branded) RAM sourced from an NZ supplier this time, which also has been working just fine. Moral of the story as I see it is that I could have paid several times more money for a high end pair of DIMMs and I would have wasted a lot of money. If you're worried about data integrity or such, ECC DIMMs mean a lot more than the latest flashy gaming RAM with blue LEDs all over it... |
