1397713 2015-04-01 21:32:00 I'd say the opposite.
I get NOD32 PC's infected, that I need to use Malwarebytes to clean up.
Malwarebytes (freeware), Ive found, is alot better at removal/cleanup than NOD32, although NOD32 is definitely getting better over the years.
NO av/malware scanner can be relied on to give a 100% cleanup. Keep running differnet scanners across a PC & sometimes Id find that the next would find some
remants the previous scanner missed .

Finding some remants of past infections or PUP (say in temp files, old emails or system restore) is not the same as finding an active infection
Finding reg entries that may point to now removed files, isnt really a detection of active infections
Finding cookies is not the same as an active infection.
Finding PUP's is not the same as having a true active malware/virus infection. Hell, even programs used to extract forgotten passwords & install keys
can show as infections/malware. Some PUPs arnt malware, but are programs being used by the owner.

Those advocating NOD, would you ONLY use NOD for a malware cleanup. None(I hope), you would also run other freeware across the PC during cleanups (eg Mbytes)

Preventing infections, different story to cleaning of infected pc's . And thats what the topic is really about.
And at the end of the day, common sense is just as import as choice of AV. Thats why the some manage to get their PC's infected over & over again, no matter what AV is installed.

In the one I just cleaned, Both MSE and Avast could'nt contain or remove one particular trojan. you would tell Avast to quarantine it, says it had, but would come right back on next reboot, even with system restore off, same with all the other antimalware programs, same thing said it had quarantined it, right back again. Nod32 was the only one that actually DID quarantine and get rid of it.

I've seen MANY people who have installed Nod32 and simply left it as is. Useless twits dont know how to set up software to work correctly. :groan:

I wouldn't even think of using Avast, seen hundreds of computers riddled and Avast says it clean.

Hell, even programs used to extract forgotten passwords & install keys can show as infections/malware. Didn't think you'd be so oblivious as to why thats happening ;)

One for example is nirsoft, they even say so them selves
Some Antivirus programs detect Mail PassView utility as infected with Trojan/Virus.

Nod picks things like that up simply because those programs are working exactly the same as malware / keyloggers or detail stealing software does. So it stops it. The fact they are legit programs means nothing, Its just how they work.

If you want to install some free AV that doesn't stop keyloggers then its your choice I guess.

Just picked up a computer this morning, Has avast, slow as a wet week, and when opening any browser or looking at some of the icons on the desktop its obvious theres infections and avast has not stopped them --- Care to explain why ?
