485153 2006-09-16 08:14:00 I have an interesting and annoying problem. Explorer (eg the Windows XP Start Bar and Windows Explorer file manager program) crashes when I open a folder that contains an AVI file. WMP crashes when I try to play an AVI. Winamp crashes when I try to play an AVI file. My photo program crashes when I view a folder with AVI files in it. I don't even have to click on the file to have them crash, it's just their presence in the folder that seems to do it.

It's getting rather annoying, as you can imagine.

Anyone have any suggestions? Otherwise I think I'll have to reformat my OS drive and reinstall XP, hoping that whatever is causing this bug might be taken out...

Cheers,
Mike.

485154 2006-09-16 08:40:00 Okay, even more interesting. I uninstalled the k-lite mega codec pack, and tried again... no problems at all. So I'm guessing the problem lies with the mega codec pack somewhere. I've been using the pack for some time now (have reinstalled XP several times and reinstalled the mega codec pack every time) and never had this issue until today. Seems a bit odd to me, but now I've uninstalled the problem seems to have gone away. Lets hope that I don't run into the issues that I had (can't remember what) that caused me to get the mega codec pack to start with :D

485155 2006-09-16 09:23:00 According to this forum (fileforum.betanews.com) you could try typing this if u want to keep that program.

Elecard MPEG Demultiplexer (C:\Program Files\K-Lite Codec Pack\filters\empgdmx.ax) cause avi preview and players to crash with some avi files, unregister it fix the problem.

regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll
