484947 2006-09-15 09:24:00 I have a problem that affects one computer (WinXP2) on my LAN. The others WinXP2 & Win2000Pro are OK. When I try to download a program from Tucows or any other similar site, they appear to download OK, shows progress bar etc. but on completion it vanishes completely. Tried searching but no joy. Tried downloading with firewall (Sygate) and antivirus (AVG) and Ewido shutdown, but still nothing. I have tried to Google for the answer and found plenty of people with a similar problem, but no answers.

484950 2006-09-15 09:50:00 Have you tried clearing out the IE cache (temp internet files) and then trying the download again? Jen (38)
484951 2006-09-15 10:13:00 Hi Jen
Yes I do that using Crap Cleaner & Spybot.
Also HJT log show nothing that is different to the other WinXP2 box that runs with almost the same programs and settings. I suspect a registry problem is the more likely answer.
I have also ran sfc /scannow and reinstalled SP2 from the CD
Thanks for your interest.

484952 2006-09-15 10:16:00 Dare I suggest you try an alternative browser such as Firefox, Opera or Mozilla for your downloads while you sort out IE's problem? :p Jen (38)
484953 2006-09-15 10:37:00 Jen,
I can get the downloads I want from one of the other computers if I have to.
It more of a agro thing than a problem.
I have tried other browsers in the past, and I like Firefox but I just prefer IE.
Thanks Again
Ian

484954 2006-09-15 10:51:00 Try removing Windows Defender if you have it installed.
Others have found that this can cause the problem and seems to depend on whether Windows defender was installed before or after other spyware programs.

I think you may have the cause of the problem. I did have windows defender but I removed it as it was causing other minor problems. If my memory is right this is about the same time as my download problem started. Any Ideas on how to fix it
