484933 2006-09-15 07:44:00 Hi all..I'm trying to install a new RAM module on my Compaq X1029 laptop but having a hard time unscrewing the RAM slot covers. The screwdriver I use seem to fit in perfect to the screws itself but looks like it was done so tight that I can't even move it at all. Any ideas on what I can do? Hopefully I won't have to bring it to the Compaq service centre just to get them to undo the screws.

TIA

484934 2006-09-15 07:57:00 Generally those pack of six or so jewellers type screwdrivers that you can get from your local hardware stores should be fine. Just use the largest philips screwdriver that's there and you should be fine bob_doe_nz (92)

You are turning it left/anti clockwise, probably a dumb question but you never know

484937 2006-09-15 09:06:00 On some models the screws are quite tight and you can't get enough torque with jewellers screwdrivers
You'll need to buy/borrow one with the same tip but with a decent handle to get a grip on
Take the lappy to DSE and buy one that fits, a magnetised tip is a good idea for lappy screws as the wee suckers are hard to get a hold of and hard to get out of the deeper holes.
I wouldn't use it on any internal stuff though, unless you're really careful to touch nothing but the screws

I hate those things.
Get a bigger screwdriver and apply some muscle.
