| 485440 | 2006-09-18 07:31:00 | Intel P4 2.4 mhz, XP Home, 120 Gig HD, 1Gig Ram My PC runs sweets as a nut, I do an awful lot of graphics, photos and music. My PC gets a thrashing ! I have Nod32 (upgraded daily) Windows Defender, Spybot Ad-Aware, Ewido, Spywareblaster, ToniArts EasyCleaner etc. I scan frequently, never having any infiltrations (that I'm aware of !) and my question is: Should I use a registry cleaner ? My gut feeling is...if it aint broke, dont fix it... Incidentally apart from the utilities mentioned, I have'nt added any time wasting utilities (there was a time if I saw an interesting utility, I would download and install it !) I also defrag regularly... To clean or not to clean: Your opinions please:) Linz53 |

| 485441 | 2006-09-18 08:27:00 | My system was not a long way off yours, apart from the fact that I got rid of Nortons many moons ago and run AVG Pro. The first time I ran Registry Mechanic I could not believe what it found. | Scouse (83) | ||

Added to that, if you do choose to run one, then show a modicum of common sense when allowing it to delete any entries, make sure you know what they are. Some people make a good living repairing/reloading systems after zealous use of registry cleaners. I use my PC about 10 hours a day. I think I ran a cleaner once but can't remember when, and it found zilch that would have concerned me or caused a performance hit. But I really hope it's a 2.4 GHz CPU you have, as my very first PC in 1980 had a 2 MHz CPU, and we have come a long way since then... |

I generally know everything there is to know about everything, but now thats 2 things I did'nt know ! I read a few quotes on CCleaner, so downloaded and installed that, it freed up around 347 Mb of junk, and then I couldnt help myself, I let it clean my registry too ! (did a back-up first, and of course created a restore point prior to this...) Well I have to tell you its quite a bit faster, and programs are loading considerably quicker ! Thanks for your opinions people ! |
