485594 2006-09-30 05:18:00 JJJJJ an iso is an image of a CD, its not compressed, its mearly a way of storing all the files on a CD in one single file. With cd images (iso, bin, cues etc) you have two options you can mount them with cd emulation software or burn them to a DVD/CD. Emulation wont work with images of OS's because you require windows for it to work (you normally dont have access to an OS when install one).

Emulation creates a emulated CD drive (appears in windows as if it was a real drive), you then mount the image and it behaves as if it was a real cd in a real drive.

You can burn images with Nero, but i personally prefer Alcohol 120% and is possibily a bit more straight forward. Your problem is that youve been burning the ISO as data, whereas you need to burn the image to the DVD. I dont use Nero 6 so cant offer any tips for burning images with that software.

485595 2006-09-30 05:34:00 Thanks for that Pete. I think ,as you say, my problem may be I have been burning them as Data Files.

So will have another try. An image file!

485596 2006-10-01 03:50:00 In Nero Express:

Select Image, Project, Copy and then Disk Image or Saved Project. From there select your image file that you are wanting to burn. And Burn.

In Nero Burning Rom:

Select New Compilation and find CD-ROM (ISO). Dont have a multi-session disk. Data Mode should be 1. It should be an ISO 9660 + Joliet. The file name length is max of 11 characters and the character set ISO 9660.

If you have already done all this and it worked ignore this.

It is a trial but goes for a year. vista itself will timebomb out before the AV does, so no problem.

485602 2006-10-06 04:31:00 Well Vista's running good, although I'm not sold on it yet. There are a few things I would like to see changed before it goes commercial. The sidebar can be a bit of a menace but I think this would be solved if more gadgets were added. The current selection isn't great.

It doesn't run as fast as I expected it too. It would seem that the time spent on the various graphics effects has impacted on the responsiveness of the machine. Having said that if you turn the eye candy down a bit it runs great.

I do get annoyed with all the constant pop-up messages whenever I make changes to the system or try to install things. Although the concept is a great one... it's just plain a pain in the a$$ when you want to get stuff done.

I also have Office 2007 Professional Plus (Beta2) installed. Haven't used it too much but it looks great. It is taking a while to find my way around but it isn't impossible. The same goes for Vista... things aren't where they used to be but you get used to the new layout.

I think Vista would probably be a good OS, but it needs quite a bit of polishing. MS is trying to put too many features into it and that's where the OS is falling over.

Now that I have uploaded the RC1 iso image I have yet to receive a request for the files from anyone. As such I will wait for the weekend if by Sunday night I do not have any requests then I will delete the image and that will be the end of it.

cheers

485603 2006-10-06 06:40:00 I have Vista RC1 installed and it runs perfectly with all the eye candy up on max :D

A few minor issues, but nothing that I have not fixed so far :D

With the sidebar, you can DL more for it (click the link on the add gadgets window), I personally don't really like it...

You can turn off the User Account Control... go to Control Panel, Security, Security Centre, Other Security Settings and then disable User Account Control.

I think it is a lot better than XP, but still a few things to sort out... I am currently running XP Pro and Vista as dual boot, I think I am going to make Vista my primary on a larger partition than XP Pro soon :waughh:
