| 485796 | 2006-09-19 14:24:00 | Hi, The last few days my pc has been cutting out on me, i had just done a fresh install of win 2000 and XP before this started to happen, it can happen at any time but it mostly happens when i have just stated it, then if i push the start button i get no response at all. However, if i take out the video card and put it back in it starts first time. A couple of days ago, i got a message saying " cmos error defaults loaded " So the i went into BIOS and noticed that the date and time was wrong, so i corrected that and have not had that message again but it still cuts out or reboots itself again. I took the little battery out for about an hour or so, as i thought i seen it somewere that it helps this sort of thing happening, but it made no differance at all. I have run all antivirus programs, Spybot,AVG, Adaware, and they say there is no problems . any help is very much appreciated. |

How many watts is ur psu>?. Try putting the video card in a different slot. Update your bios. Have a good read of this www.techimo.com |

Turns out the problem was caused by the cpu overheating All the dust in the heat sink (yes there was a lot) had severely reduced the airflow by clogging up the heat sink fins. Check the bios to see what kind of temprature reading you're getting |

| 485801 | 2006-09-20 00:42:00 | Thanks everyone that replied, Forgive my lack of pc knowledge, " full configuration " i am guessing that you mean the pc spec's ? if it is, pent 4 / 3.0 mhz, gigabyte mobo GA-8IPE 1000 PRO 2 [-W], 2X 512 mb memory, [excact matching], Zalmans cooler, psu which is only 4 weeks old, can't remember the name of it, but it has XP550 on the side of it, 1 lite-on dvd recorder & 1 pioneer dvd as well. running dual OS's - win 2000 & xp sp2 and installed in that order. CPU heat range form 25 C - 44 C max, mobo sits on 26 C , just fitted another heatsink fan for it, exhaust fan as well, " query " - after i fitted the heatsink fan, i did check the /mobo manual after and i didn't hook the connection up to the one its suppose to near the cpu, would that cause this problem ? thought it should be ok because of the good heat range of the cpu. I have experienced shoty PSU's previuosly , were after flicking the psu switch on and off repeatly, the psu would startup, but in this case it does not do anything, it only reacts when i take out the video card and put it straight back in it starts every time. I have never updated the BIOS before or nor have i updated the video bios, this is a dual BIOS, so i'll have to work that out and unfortunatly i have to nick off for most of the day, but i will get back to you as soon a poss'. thanks very much. |
