| 485391 | 2006-09-18 02:40:00 | Hi, just some questions regarding Excel. I have gone via a book and cannot find the answers. When you do a line graph as “series 1”, how do you add another series (series 2) but make it a bar graph? I know how to add another series but just don’t know how to make it so there is a line graph and a bar graph on the same chart. Let’s say you have a set of FX rates. As you know these are in decimals places. How do you make it so on the X axis it is indexed to “100” then you see the changes resulting from that when the line graph goes over the 100 mark or below it. If let’s say you have FX rates for each month for say 10 years. How do you calculate quarterly FX rates while using a function of “lookup”. I am assuming it wants to combine a “average” function with the “lookup” function, so that it looks up each 3 months and does an average. Rather than doing it manually. If you are using Excel and auto fill command does not work properly. Is there a way to work around it? When you use auto fill, some of the cell’s letters addresses are incorrect is there a way to work around this. Such as average the first 3 cells, then average the 2nd set, then average the 3rd set … When I did the first two, and tried to auto fill it, it does not work properly. Do we have to define it somewhat and stuff …. |

Once added select just that series and right click and change the chart type to bar. |

Hi, you have several questions here so hopefully this covers most of them. 1) To do a combined line and bar graph you can use one of the several techniques outlined by Jon Peltier @ peltiertech.com - see the Combination Chart link 2) To get results based on per quarter your going to require data to be in that format. So I suggest a separate column which has quarter and year then base your graph over totals by quarter. eg Q12006, Q22006 etc then do a SUMIF formula for each quarter. hth |
