486640 2006-09-22 07:43:00 Hi there people

Hope some one can help me out here ^^ . Just yesterday i found one my video file, in rm format, could not be played . When I tried to use RealPlayer to play the file, it gave me a similar message like this: This file cannot be played and may be corrupted . Reason being that I could not give the exact message is because now that if I try to access the file in any way my window would some what freeze, but not in a way that my mouse and other thing would stop moving just that I cannot do anything else, eg open up a folders . . . . Tried Window Defrag and Disk keeper defrag, Window System Scan, and Norton System Work Disk Scan . All showed no problem . . . :(

I've tried to copy and paste the file to another drive and folder, but kept getting this I/O error or Cyclic Redun*something* error . Of course thats before when I could access the file . Tried using Media player classic, VLC, Divx and Media Player but no go . Reinstalled my codecs as well . . . same thing :S . I also have another partition of xp in another drive, booted in and tried to access the file, same thing, could not play the file :confused: . Used GSpot, couldnt detect any codecs for it .

Within that folder, 2 more rm files were the same . All these video file had worked before, something that I've watched over many times .

So does any one know whats up with that file or whats up with my hdd?

Thanks

486641 2006-09-22 23:22:00 Cyclic Redun*something* error -> I suspect you mean cyclic redundancy error.
Try accessing the file in safe mode and see if it works or not.

Thanks for the reply, tried in safe mode...same thing. Though now, from time to time I dont get any errors just my hdd taking ages trying to access the file though never manages. Because of this problem, I took a look at several other video clips on that drive and found there were quite a few files that had the same problem plus now it even some files (game files) had the same problem :(

Is my hdd dying?
