486569 2006-09-22 02:16:00 Been having this problem with my Outlook over the last 3 days. Use Xtra to send my emails. But I have setup free email account through Orcon 2 years so I can receive emails through Outlook using POP3 account instead of using web mail. Had to do this because Xtra only allows one email account.

Each time I try to download my emails receive this message “The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Anna', Server: '127.0.0.1', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E”

This also happened to the Xtra Email account but I fix the problem by changing 127.0.0.1 to pop3.xtra.co.nz under server information.

But if I change Orcon from 127.0.0.1 to pop3.orcon.co.nz doesn’t fix the problem.

The problem seems to be that something is changing Incoming Mail (POP3) from the standard pop3.orcon.net.nz to 127.0.0.1. But if I change Orcon account from 127.0.0.1. to pop3.orcon.net.nz it doesn’t fix the problem it only freezes up Outlook.

Should mention this problem seemed to fix it self yesterday but it has just started happening again. At the time thought it was ISP problem.

Would appreciate any help in fixing this problem.

486570 2006-09-22 02:27:00 what antivirus do you use?

127.0.0.1 is your pc which indicates its getting the mail through a sever on your pc eg antivirus email scanner.

also what OS?

Because it should be:

mail.orcon.net.nz

486573 2006-09-22 02:34:00 try turning off the email scanning or repairing the McAFEE. may pay to search McAFEE site to see if they still run a 127.0.0.1 style scanner. with XP most don't as its an old style scanning methos prone to problems.

you havn't added a HOST file recently? may pay to check your host file for any "xtra" listed (some lists have XTRA as a malicous company therefore blacklisted)

486574 2006-09-22 02:47:00 Not to sure what you mean by "Host" file??? Annanz (3044)
486575 2006-09-22 05:06:00 Somewhere in the heart of all Windows operating systems, there is a file called "hosts", without an extension. Search for "hosts" in Windows to find it. pcuser42 (130)
