486548 2006-09-22 00:14:00 Under properties it says 'device is working properly' but in My computer the name of the disc I am using doesn't even show on the CDrom drive, so it isn't working.
I have CDspace ( A virtual CDrom drive program) installed, but it hasn't given any trouble before.
It is a MITSUMI CR-48X5TE drive and I have Windows ME. The amber light on the front of the drive blinks furiously when I put a disc in.

486549 2006-09-22 00:17:00 sounds like its stuffed. not worth fixing, simly replace the cd rom. cd burners are only a few $ more ;) tweak'e (69)
486550 2006-09-22 00:19:00 Useally the cost for repair useally far outways the cost of buying a new one. You could try a head cleaning disk in it.

486552 2006-09-22 04:59:00 This happened to me with my DVD reader/CD burner. I replaced it for $77 and got a DVD-RAM burner! :D pcuser42 (130)
486553 2006-09-22 05:49:00 Since how cheap CD-R or CRW are I would not bother to buy a head cleaning kit. I would probably get a DVD Writer. Nomad (952)
486554 2006-09-22 06:06:00 Well I have an old, well not that old CD burner thats sitting in a box doing nothing. I dont need it now and apparently does near 1:1 cop... erm it copies really well. bob_doe_nz (92)
