| 486692 | 2006-09-22 21:50:00 | Hi, I have just gone onto broadband and have got a single port modem, is there a way to network my laptop to my desk pc cable or wireless that is pretty straight forward and reasonably economic since my networking of the 2 machines is not done too regularly, I guess an advantage to wireless is that I may use my laptop anywhere around the house to use internet and exchange files, if anybody can give me a few pointers I would be grateful as this sort of thing is not my strong point |

Does the PC have more than one network port? if so you can use internet connection sharing and have the PC connected to the modem and the laptop connected to the PC, all you will need is a cable. With wireless, sure you do get that advantage, but there is also the cost involved... If none of the machines have wireless, you will need to purchase wireless cards and they are about $50 for PCI last time I checked... and I don't think the cost would be worth it if you say you won't use it regularly. Illustration here (fidelius.quantoaduro.com) for explaination :) |

If anybody has a suggestion and an idea of what I would need I would be grateful. | the_inspector (7721) | ||
