486679 2006-09-22 11:05:00 Hi all, I was just setting up RDC so I can see what my dad is up to these days, I don't know what IP address he has, I went into run:cmd-ipconfig but I really don't know what one it is, what specific IP do you need? Also when it asks for the username and password do I enter my dads one? Im confused. I read the "How To Remote access" in the August issue of PcWorld but It didn't help much. Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
Mike

486680 2006-09-22 12:53:00 Are you trying to do the RDC from a PC on the same network or over the internet? CYaBro (73)

486682 2006-09-22 19:10:00 You have to create a username/pw (to log into XP), on whatever PC you want to use RDC on.

Thats the username/pw u use. To log into the other computer.

Are both of u using XP Pro?

486684 2006-09-22 23:26:00 Hi Mike. You mean, you are spying on your dad without his knowledge? Is it for some legitimate reason? I apologise in advance for questioning you if you are doing this for something good.

It is a little bit off topic here, but several PressF1 members have recommended Ultra VNC as a better substitute for Windows RDC -> http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

Cheers :)

"Just for fun"? You wouldn't want someone to spy on you while you are online banking or writing a e-mail or chatting with your girlfriend, would you?

I suspect it is "yes" to your question. Check out this page for more information: ultravnc.sourceforge.net

Cheers :)

486688 2006-09-22 23:41:00 remote desktop is pretty simple. to find out what ip your dad has go to his pc, : go start/run, type cmd and press enter. then ipconfig. the ip address is the FIRST one (it says IP) once u hav this info u can remote desktop...... open the remote desktop then in the computer field type in your dads pc IP address. when u are asked to logon with a name and password, u must use an account that is on your dads computer. make sure ur dads pc is enabled to use remote desktop, (right click my computer, properties, remote, and check the box that says "allow users to remotely connect to this pc" any other questions PM me. aidanmaz (7180)
